Liking to think that I am a level-headed person I want to present to you some points that both sides bring up. Some of these points seem valid and rational on the surface but dig a little deeper and the rationale seems to crumble.
The most recent comment I have heard came from a truck driver who said “I don’t care whether people get vaccinated or not. The main reason people don’t get vaccinated is fear because vaccines take years to develop and the current covid vaccines were developed and put into use so quickly.”
It is easy to put a counter argument to this: There are scientists who are constantly working at developing vaccines and the accumulated science has made it easier to develop new ones in less time than it would have taken, say, ten years ago.
Now let’s take a look at the vaccines themselves. There are basically two types. The one type, namely AstraZeneca is a chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored vaccine. This means that the company took a virus that normally infects chimpanzees, and genetically modified it to avoid any possible disease consequences in people. The other type i.e.Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson contain synthetic mRNA (messenger RiboNucleicAcid.)
Neither of these vaccines are a completely new concept, as some people believe. The technology had been around for quite some time. I remember being vaccinated the first time I travelled overseas from Australia. These vaccines usually contained killed microbes that when alive, would cause disease, but once dead they stimulated the production of antibodies against the disease. mRNA vaccines, a newer concept, have been to immunise against and to treat certain types of cancer.
Then anti-vaxers consist mainly of people who believe in conspiracy theories. These theories take many different forms. According to one report I read, the vaccines contain graphene oxide, a metallic substance that when exposed to 5G radiation will cause illness and eventual death of the vaccinated individual.
Another theory is that a microchip is injected with the vaccine so that the individual can be traced and the individual’s location can be known to authorities at any time. This borders on the stuff of early sci-fi movies.
Common sense asks how can a ‘microchip’ be included in a vial of liquid? And how wide does the gauge of the needle have to be so that it can be injected into the subject.
Then there is the “Agenda 21” conspiracy. In brief this “Agenda 21” was supposedly compiled by the UN back in 1992 and is a plan for a World Order under which every individual would have equal access to housing, goods, and services at the cost of loss of individual rights. Furthermore for this “Agenda” to work the population would have to be decimated because it wouldn’t work with the current total world population.
Some conspiracy theorists believe the corona virus was deliberately released with the aim of reducing the world population. The subsequent development and sale of vaccines was a ploy for pharmaceutical giants to reap a lovely profit.
Then there are those who believe that the actual vaccines themselves will surreptitiously “kill off” those that did not perish from covid 19 in the first place.
Now a word or two about medicines other than vaccines that can prevent, treat or cure covid 19. I refer to hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. These medicines have been around for a number of years. Ivermectin, for example, has been in use as an antiparasitic drug and has been shown to be effective against coronavirus, though some will diagree. So why has it not been widely used in place of the new vaccine? The conspiratrists say that it is because the pharmaceutical giants are reaping too much profit from the sale of new vaccines.
I ask myself “is it likely that a group of people from different parts of the world got together to decide the fate of humankind?” History has taught us that there have always been attempts by individuals or governments to take over other countries and impose their rule. Is this happening on a worldwide scale today? Is a group of people deliberately trying to take control of the whole planet, decimate the population and impose their social and economic rule over the remaining population. And what about the scientists working on vaccines or cures, are they all evildoers, with murder as their motivation?
If this is the case, then who are these people? How and where do they meet? How do they remain hidden? Or do they? Is there an unilateral agreement between governments of different countries to work on the same agenda? And are the majority of people so dumb as to not realise that this is taking place? Would they passively just let it happen? How come people in some countries, notably Thailand re accusing their government of not acting against the pandemic early enough?
Now getting back to the question “should I get vaccinated or not?”
The rate at which the delta variant is spreading it is likely that everyone will get covid 19. The only way to avoid it is to be vaccinated. At least this will reduce the severity of the disease if you should get it even after double-dose vaccination.
Finally from a social point of view, and it’s what is happening in UK, Europe, USA, it is very likely that you will be excluded from entertainment venues, sporting venues, restaurants, shopping malls, places of worship and other places that people usually frequent unless you can show proof of vaccination or at the least a negative covid 19 test result.
I hope I have provided enough information here so that you can decide for yourself if you will get vaccinated or not.
